Your dog's coat needs consistent care:
- At least once a week you should thoroughly brush out your dog to free their coat of dead hair and mats.
- Your pet should also be seen by a professional groomer several times a year. Some dogs need monthly professional visits (depending on breed, coat, length, etc.).
- Before bathing, make sure your dog's coat is free of mats, as bathing will only worsen the condition.
- Always use lukewarm water for your dog?s bath and a good dog shampoo. Be careful not to get shampoo in the eyes. Mineral oil may be placed in eyes before bathing to avoid any irritation from shampoo.
- When shampooing, work lather again and again through coat and then thoroughly rinse! Leaving soap on the skin invites dry itchy skin.
- Towel dry your dog as best you can and keep him warm until completely dry. You may want to use a hair dryer if you have a long-haired dog to speed up the drying process.
Remember: A clean and brushed out (no mats!) dog is not just nice looking, he's a very happy and healthy dog!
